About Me

Meet Sumayya

As-salāmu ʿalaykum and welcome to Safe Space with Sumayya 🌿

I’m Sumayya, a qualified counsellor dedicated to helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with resilience, self-awareness, and hope. I hold a BA Honours in Psychology and have further specialised in Islamic Psychology (Level 2), EQ Life Coaching, NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), and Play Therapy.

For over four years, I’ve offered private counselling, supporting clients from diverse backgrounds through personal, family, and emotional challenges. My approach blends professional psychological tools with empathy, cultural sensitivity, and — when desired — Islamic guidance, so you feel truly seen and supported.

I’ve also worked as a school counsellor for Grade 00 to Grade 6 learners at a leading Muslim school in South Africa, where I:

Provided individual and group counselling

Hosted numerous mental health workshops for students, parents, and teachers

Created safe spaces for children to express themselves, build coping skills, and develop emotional resilience

Over the years, I’ve supported clients with:

Stress, anxiety, and burnout

Grief, loss, and life transitions

Marital and family challenges

Self-esteem and identity struggles

Boundary setting and emotional regulation

Play therapy for children to process emotions creatively and safely

Beyond my work

I’m a baking enthusiast, a henna artist, and a proud cat lover 🐾. I believe creativity and joy are essential for balance in life — and I bring that warmth into every session.

Whether in schools, community spaces, or private sessions, my mission is to guide you towards healing, clarity, and a stronger connection with yourself.

This is your safe space to pause, reflect, and grow — without judgement, only compassion. 💛
